An exceptional early lithographic card from the famous German exotic people's promoter and founder of Berlin's zoo. The title says it depicts an Indian coffee house. The message to a woman on the back in Berlin is a rhyming verse in German: "Fruh, fromm, froehlich, frei! Hoch lebe die Postkarten Sammlerei" [Early, pious, happy and free, long live postcard collecting]."

Carl's brother John was also a fine publisher of postcards, and worked in Colombo at this time.
