Elphinstone College, Mumbai is one of the oldest colleges in the University of Mumbai system. It is named after Mountstuart Elphinstone, the Governor of Bombay from 1819 to 1827. The college was funded by the citizens of the city, offered its first classes in 1836, and is located in the Kala Ghoda area of downtown Mumbai. Famous alumni include Dadabhai Naoroji, Dinshaw Eduljee Wacha, and Sir Jamshedji Nusserwanji Tata.
