[Original caption] Madras, Date Palms. This is a corner, probably of the People's Park at Madras, which the city owes to energy of its sometime Governor, Sir Charles Trevelyan. Here Anglo-Indians and natives can walk in groves of luxuriant date palms, and breathe the cool breath rising from eleven little lakes. The Park embraces 116 acres of ground, and its roads extend to five and a half miles. [end]
