The Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden in Kolkata is one of Asia's oldest and most significant botanical institutions, established in 1787 on the west bank of the Hugli River. Colonel Robert Kyd founded the garden primarily as an economic enterprise for the East India Company, focusing on introducing commercial crops and spices. After Kyd's death in 1793, William Roxburgh transformed the garden's focus, bringing scientific order and expanding its botanical collections. The garden currently spans 273 acres of land, 1,377 plant species, 14,122 total plants, 25 divisions and 24 interconnected lakes linked to the Ganges.

This collotype postcard was one of the earliest kind of non-tinted color cards, where the colours were laid down during the printing process as opposed to being added through stencils and human tinters afterwards.
