A vibrant painted postcard by the Anglo-Indian artist Frank Clinger Scallan (1870-1950), part of a series he made illustrating the city he spent much of his life in. He studied in France, and illustrated a number of books while working at the Survey of India for some forty years. His Kolkata postcards, like this one, are full of life and energy and are among the most distinctive of the city.

An excellent article on Scallan by Sujaan Mukerjee The story of the elusive man who made these fascinating pastel postcards of Calcutta.
