Frank Clinger Scallan (1870-1950) studied at the Calcutta Boys School, and later in Paris where he worked with the French painter and sculptor Jean-Paul Laurens. He illustrated a number of books while working at the Survey of India for some forty years. He is also said to have been a poet. His Kolkata postcards, like this one, are full of life and energy and are among the most distinctive of the city.
