The city of Baramulla is about 55 km from Srinagar, and because it was a key transit point for travelers to Srinagar, one of the most popular postcard locations in Kashmir. Its name comes from the word for "boar's molar" in Sanskrit, for the form Lord Vishnu took to break a dam that had once contain a giant lake that had flooded the whole of Kashmir valley. Located on Jhelum river bank, Baramulla offers spectacular mountain views.
