[Verso in ink, no name] "My first mooring place. The mountain in background supplies Srinagar reservoir at Hewan [? Hokar Sar?] - situated at its base. No man or beast may walk upon it. The middle mountain is the favorite hunting ground of the present Rajah – Sir Hari Singh. The hill in foreground is 1000 ft. On its summit is the Shankara Charya a Hindu temple built 2550 B.C. visible from my boat at Gunderbal & also from Islamabad – 40 mi S.E. For 4 years it has nightly borne a great electric lantern at expense of Rajah of Mysore. There is one solitary small tree beside the ascending path. Non Hindus, of course, not admitted. Interior [?] lingam and yoni."
