From one of the best known paintings by Raja Ravi Varma, unlike the larger oleographs of his paintings, this postcard was not printed by the Ravi Varma Press in Bombay, but by Stengel & Co. in Germany, showing that cost-effective manufacture of postcards was best done abroad. The image was reproduced as a black and white postcard by other publishers, including S. Mahadeo & Sons of Belgaum.
