During the first World War, the Germans held their captives at a number of camps, and Muslims in particular would find themselves at Zossen-Wunsdorf not far from Berlin. A mosque was also built for them, as the Germans hoped that some of them, especially Indian Muslims, could be turned and help lead an invasion of British India from Afghanistan. Very few defected, and a group that did make it to Kabul were politely rebuffed by the Afghan Amir.
