The Ctesiphon Arch, Mesopotamia

Presented by the Women of Bombay Presidency, this postcard was used to raise funds and support the British and Indian troops fighting in Mesopotamia (modern Iraq) against Turkish forces in World War I. These forces suffered a major defeat in 1916 at Ctesiphon, where this arch from a royal Sassanian palace dating to the 7th century still stood, but they managed a significant victory here a year later.
