[Original caption] A Low Country Village. The picture shows a typical scene in the flat country parts of Ceylon. Low, roughly built stone walls line the sides of the roads and enclose a patch of ground, whereon is erected a one-storied building with a heavily thatched roof. The great characteristic of these native villages is the luxurious vegetation which surrounds the houses, in many cases rendering the buildings almost invisible. [end]
