This is among the earliest postcards of Kashmir, printed for a British publisher most likely by Raphael Tuck & Sons in London just before they themselves started printing what are probably the most well-known series of Indian postcards under their own brand name. These "Aquarelle" branded-postcards, which refer to a watercolor painting and possibly pre-figure the "Oilette" or oil painting-branded postcards Tucks later published.

The handwritten pencil note on the back reads: "Dear Em & Harry & all, We are leaving here today, have sent you this box of things, all we have left, very busy letter to follow. Much Love to all, Ethel and Lily."
