Few Karachiites today would believe that a very popular early postcard of the city showed the Alligators at Mughar Pier, Karachi. Maghar Pier is an ancient grove and home to a unique species of short-nosed crocodile (Hindus and Muslims still congregate here to make offerings). A popular tale had a British officer walking across their backs without incident. Photographer and postcard publisher R. Jalbhoy offered a number of postcards of the crocodiles, of which this the most ferocious. How did he get so many of them to show their teeth at the same time?
