A very rare postcard, both because it is from East Bengal now Bangladesh and because it is a very early real photo postcard, a type that did not come into prominence until the next decade.

Indian Bakers at La Penne near Marseille
Indian troops in France were supplied by their own cooks and bakers, with the scent of freshly baked naan in tandoori ovens often wafting over the countryside as reported by the journalists who accompanied them.

The 1902 Guide to Poona (p. 60) had ad ad for this hotel, described as "A Select Hotel for European Gentry, Entirely under new and excellent European management. European Manageress. Home Comforts, Cleanliness, and First Class Cuisine guaranteed.

A nice view that guides the eye up the snaked drive.
This card was postmarked from Bombay on Dec. 11, 1953.
A Boothea Milkman
A studio portrait full of contradictions. The milkman from Darjeeling of Tibetan ancestry is shown with an English church in the deep background.
President Jawaharlal Nehru
Phoenix Printing Works was one of the largest publishers of postcards of political leaders, including this less common casual view of Rashtrapati [President] Nehru in sandals.
Recollections of Darjeeling
Note how every frame is labelled and the entire ensemble unusually titled "Recollections," which was only occasionally used on multi-view postcards, with "Greetings" the standard term.

Native Wrestlers
Curiously this view was not one of the more popular Clifton & Co. postcards, one of the first publishers in the city, despite its many scenes and informational value. From the building columns and the firm's location it is likely to be from Bombay.
Woodstock College for Girls - Mussoorie
Billed as Asia's oldest boarding school, it was founded by American missionaries in 1854 and until recently provided an American-style education and is now co-educational.
