Gopal Krishna Gokhale (1866–1915) was a leading moderate nationalist, social reformer and parliamentarian in early 20th‑century India, best known as founder of the Servants of India Society and as an important political mentor to both M. K.
Stormed during the Second Relief of Lucknow, inside the gateway thousands of people were killed in what is sometimes termed a mass killing by British troops, but on this postcard is celebrated as a battle triumph.
Saraswati is the goddess of learning and the arts (e.g., music), and is often seen playing the Veena, a string instrument. She is also worshipped as the goddess of thoughts of truth and forgiveness.
A rather impressive portrait, from a slightly low angle, giving the boy a certain grandeur. Unfortunately, a most rarely postcarded occupation.
One of the earliest postcards of this collection of Jain Temples which date from roughly the 8th century through 15th century, although there is apparently evidence of the area as a site of pilgrimage from the 3rd century BCE.

Presented by the Women of Bombay Presidency, this postcard was used to raise funds and support the British and Indian troops fighting in Mesopotamia (modern Iraq) against Turkish forces in World War I.
