In the Simla Bazaar

A painted postcard of Simla, published by the local branch of one of the Raj's major retailers based in Kolkata. The steep rise of the typical crowded hillstation bazaar, from local ("native") stores and quarters below, to the European and wealthier Indian retailers above and along the Mall, is well-represented in this less common view of the hillstation.
