An Indian Woman travelling in the Manshil

An Indian Woman travelling in the Manshil

c. 1899

A very early postcard printed in India, most likely by The Ravi Varma Press and drawn by its chief lithographer Paul Gerhardt. It is possible that this was among the first set of postcards printed by the Press, before they and Gerhardt signed and attached their brand to cards. In these first days of the postcard industry, where to place titles was flexible and, in this case, would have been written into one of the single-color lithographic stones used to print the card.
