Density, darkness and detail combine in the full collotype effect. Note the tiny markers of European presence like the [Jab]bar Khan Fruit Seller sign in the top left. The Urdu beneath also uses the word "fruit seller." Between the grapes is a Victorian lamp. This popular image probably dates to 1889 when Bremner undertook his first full photographic tour of Balochistan, where he ran a studio in Quetta for many years.
