A rich color palette pervades this scene. What is particularly rare is the upside down caption at the very bottom, "Gluckstadt [Lucky city in translation], Rathaus [Town Hall]." The town still very much exists in Germany, the title in error an artifact of the printing process where bows or sheets of postcards were printed together on larger sheets and then cut and trimmed. Sometimes errors came up in the registration or alignment of the print runs, with the titles laid down separately; note how high the Ceylon title is with respect to the image. Needless to say, such examples are extremely rare.
