Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose (1897–1945), shown here in his Indian National Army (I.N.A.) uniform, was an Indian nationalist leader who broke with the Indian National Congress’s dominant nonviolent strategy and pursued independence through armed struggle, including wartime alliances with Germany and Japan. "Jai Hind" is written in the top right. Various I.N.A. soldiers are probably shown below the flags in the bottom right corner in this effective composition showing a groundswell of support behind the leader.
