Hector Bolitho, the biographer who spent time in Pakistan in the early 1950s researching his book Jinnah: Creator of Pakistan (1954) wrote this about the Shalimar Gardens:
"While I was in Lahore I made a habit of rising at five o'clock each morning
The 6.0 km long stretch is the second largest urban beach in the world (after Cox's Bazaar in Bangladesh), shown here with part of the Senate House, the administrative heart of the University of Madras, built in the late 1870s.
Once one of the jewels of Chennai, the People's Park was constructed between 1859-1861 and extended over 112 acres. Today it is apparently largely neglected with much of the land used for other purposes.
