A Tamil Lady

c. 1899
12.10x
7.45cm

A very early Higginbotham's postcard, with the back blind stamped "Post Card" instead of printed (or electrotyped). The image is also very small, not merely to leave room for writing but because that is where most of the expense was, in the ink and plate to render an image.

The year and place is illegible, but it was sent from India to Miss H.M. Ritchie c/o Mrs. Fish, The Kirklands, Dunbar, Scotland: "This ought to reach you about your birthday of which many many happy returns my dear little daughter. Ask Mrs. Fish for 5/- with my best love. I am so glad you are having better weather but by the time you get this you will be back in Dunbar I expect and busy at lessons again. Your loving Mother."
