[Original title] Maliakali or Devi as Durga the destroyer of the demons of all devouring thing. [end]
Kali and Durga are closely related manifestations of the divine feminine energy in Hinduism. Both are considered forms of Shakti, the primordial cosmic energy. The fact that both Kali and Durga were most likely to be illustrated in Kolkata suggests that this handpainted card originates there, and that the production of such postcards was not restricted to western India.
