Missionaries were prolific early publishers of postcards in India, using them for fundraising and general propagation of their work and activities. The Church Mission Society (C.M.S.) was one of the most active, with activities in India going back to 1814. Note how well designed the card is, the circle of buildings and inset circle of patients, the sprinkling of information and enough space to write a message on the front.

The John Bishop Memorial Hospital was founded in 1902, based on the bequest of a Scottish businessmen and the decision of his wife to spend it in Kashmir. It is still operational.
