Paper Jewels in Goa

As part of the larger Ephemeral New Futures for Passing Images exhibition curated by Rahaab Allana at the Serendipity Arts Festival a portion of the Paper Jewels exhibition titled The Instagram of Their Age that was shown in Mumbai and Delhi made it to Panjim, Goa between December 2018 and January 2019. The focus was on "border" images, evoking "socio-political themes - renditions around nationalism, frontiers and locational identities." Appropriately, it was displayed in the same room as Abhijit Pal's I Was There installation featuring a mini-replica of the Berlin Wall. A number of postcards of the former Northwest Frontier Province (NWFP, now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), Balochistan and Sindh were displayed, as well as postcards of Indian troops in France in World War I and the Independence struggle. Rahaab Allana and Omar Khan led a walk-through with visitors on Sunday, December 16th and discussed the multiple roles of postcards in crossing and delineating frontiers.
