Pratapgarh, where Shiwoji killed Afzulkhan

A rare landscape postcard by Dhurandhar, who is best known for his portraits of Bombay types. This however was one of the most famous battles in Maharashtran history when, in 1659, the forces of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj (for whom numerous monuments at the airport in Mumbai today are named) defeated and killed Afzal Khan, a key step in the establishment of a Maratha confederacy that later also fought the Mughal rulers in the north.
