In 1905, a significant exhibition was organized in Bombay (now Mumbai) that marked an important moment in India's colonial and nationalist history. Planned to commemorate the visit of the Prince of Wales (later King George V) to India. On August 14, 1905, prominent citizens of Bombay gathered at the Town Hall to establish this memorial exhibition. The meeting included notable figures like Sir Pherozeshah Mehta, Justice Badrudin Tyabji, and Justice Chandavarkar. This exhibition initiative led to the establishment of what would become the Prince of Wales Museum (now Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya). The foundation stone was laid by the Prince of Wales on November 11, 1905.

This exhibition period also coincided with significant political developments, including the Swadeshi movement which was formally launched from Calcutta's Town Hall on August 7, 1905 and represented both colonial commemoration and growing Indian cultural consciousness during a pivotal time in India's independence movement. The postcard gives some sense of how rich the displays were of goods, furniture and pictorial art.
