Construction of Belgaum Fort, now known as Belagavi Fort in Karnataka state was begun in the 13th century. It has seven major gates, the main one dating to the 17th century.

A very nicely coloured card, using side profiles of people, a commonly trope in albumen photography, to mark the scale of a scene. An open road extends across the whole foreground. The shadows fall softly on the right.
Shriniwas Mahadeo & Sons on Church Road in Belgaum (now Belagavi, Karnataka) published a number of exceptional cards of the ruins of Nagarkhana Gate. Note the red coloring on a few flowers, applied by stencil.
