Victoria Gardens, now known as Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan or Rani Bagh is Mumbai's oldest public garden and was established in 1862 and spans 50 acres in the Byculla area. The garden's story began in 1835 when the British administration granted land in Sewri to the Agri-Horticultural Society of Western India. Due to transportation difficulties, the garden was relocated to Byculla in 1861, where flora from Sewri was transferred to create the new Victoria Gardens. Lady Catherine Frere inaugurated the garden on November 19, 1862. A zoo was added in 1890. The Bhau Daji Lad Museum is also adjacent to the gardens.
